1965 BMC 4/25

Post by CNR » Sat Oct 06, 2018 4:50 pm

Good morning everyone. I just purchased a tractor. It is badged as a BMC. It has a few issues. Hopefully, I can found some info here to get it running good.
I have lived in the city all my life. We just bought a 10 acre piece of land in the country and need a tractor to work around the Farm.
Thank you,
CNR
P.S. thank you for the add

Does anybody know the firing order on this was tractor ? I have a few cylinders not firing. I have spark in every spark plug. I need to find out of the wires are in the correct order.

Standard 4 cyl. firing order 1-3-4-2

There is a free downloadable BMC mini manual in the download section. That will cover the 4/25 for a large part of it. You'll need a dropbox account to download it.

I also have fuel coming out a thin metal tube which is attached to the bottom of the intake manifold bolt that bolts the carburetor to the intake manifold. Is this an overflow fuel line ? If it is, my carburetor may be gettting too much fuel.

Hi CNR. The tube attached to the inlet manifold is indeed a drain. It should not weep with the engine running but sometimes leaves a few drops after it has been shut off which is fine. It will give an indication if the carburettor is flooding.
The other bit of information about the firing order is that the distributor rotates anti-clockwise - is that counter-clockwise to you? Regards John Poulter.

Where would I find serial and model numbers on tractor and engine? Yr of it too? I can't believe anything the prior owner told me.
Thank you,
CNR

Hi CNR. The serial number plate should be riveted to the left hand seat support bracket above the fuel tank. It will show model number. There should be a long series of numbers in three groups - the last 4 digits on the right hand side is the actual number of the tractor, I would expect the number to be between 4300 and 6300. The 4/25 was built between roughly the end of 1968 to the end of 1969. The engine number is on a plate riveted to the cylinder block just above the oil filter and probably begins with 16T. Regards john Poulter.

Next line is the long one.
